UDIA NSW is pleased to invite UDIA Members and key stakeholders to an exclusive UDIA TV Event unpacking Aboriginal Land Rights and discussing working with First Nations groups in NSW.

It is predicted that by 2030, 72% of Australia’s land will have some form of First Nations right recognised in it. Collectively, NSW’s Aboriginal Land Councils are the largest private landholders by area in the State. Despite the Referendum result, Treaty negotiations are advancing in other States, and the NSW Government recently announced Treaty consultations will commence in 2025. While the opportunities for First Nations groups and industry to partner are enormous, both sides need a better understanding of each other to work effectively to deliver outcomes for all.

At this event, UDIA Members and key stakeholders will learn about:

•  The social, political and legal history of Aboriginal Land Rights in NSW;
•  The NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983, Local Aboriginal Land Councils, and the Aboriginal Land SEPP;
•  The difference between Aboriginal Land Rights and Federal Native Title;
•  What Connecting with Country means for development;
•  The opportunities and challenges of working with Aboriginal organisations and groups;
•  What all this legislation means for development and developers.

Please join us for this complimentary event with guest speaker Thomas Wright, Senior Associate, Chalk & Behrendt, hosted by UDIA CEO, Stuart Ayres.
